Warning to Exhibitors: Event Directory Scams
UBM TechWeb would like to advise all Interop exhibitors to beware of a series of scams targeted at exhibitors of major trade exhibitions. UBM Techweb has no relationship with the FAIRGuide, Expo-Guide or any of their other branded directories, and they are not authorized to use the "Interop" name and registered trademarks on information they send to show exhibitors and attendees.
Description of the Scam:
The directory solicitations appear benign, asking companies simply to update their information (which supposedly already exists in the directories and has been published for free). However, upon closer examination of the terms on the second page of the offer, listings in the directories are not at all free of charge. By signing and returning the solicitation form with or without updating business information, companies will actually be entering into a three-year, irrevocable agreement that automatically renews and will require them to pay a significant amount of money with no foreseeable benefits.
If you have fallen victim to the scammers, the website www.stopecg.org will provide useful information and guidance for any exhibitors who may have been victimized by this scam. In addition, if your company has paid using a credit card, you should attempt to get the charge reversed.
