Deploying Network Access Control

Every enterprise network requires a more focused security model that cause company executives and IT staff ongoing consternation. Whether it is guests & contractors with unmanaged devices, the presence of specialty devices such as phones & scanners, or the lack of a common user repository, these sticking points feed the uncertainty and confusion that cloud the industry.

A number of Network Access Control (NAC) frameworks have emerged that leverage established and emerging standards (from IEEE 802, the IETF, and the TCG), and they all act in different ways to control and share the access and identity of the device, user or network state.

In the absence of a one-size-fits-all solution, the effectiveness of a NAC deployment can be improved by combining multiple, interoperating approaches. The focus of this initiative is the deployment of NAC, with the goal of demonstrating complete NAC coverage (across multiple sample networks) in a cost-effective manner through the interoperability of various mechanisms.
