On tap for Interop: Security, Web 2.0, Green Tech
Organizers expect 20,000 attendees at this year's Interop networking trade show, an increase that speaks to the show's broader focus…The Interop networking trade show is growing bigger by getting broader…This week's event in Las Vegas, one of two in the U.S. and five worldwide this year, should draw nearly 20,000 attendees, according to General Manager Lenny Heymann. That's up from 17,500 last year. More companies are showing up, too: more than 475, an increase of about 100 over last year's list, Heymann said….Interop's made a comeback because networking is not just healthier than it was a few years ago but also is being woven into other parts of IT, including security, application performance and telephony.

Interop 2007 Buzz: Security to Web 2.0
Interop is back…This year, there is real buzz once again – and by buzz I don’t mean hype lacking substance. This year’s show features 475 vendors, 100 more than last year, and Interop organizers estimate that there have been 20,000+ attendees, also well up from recent years….NAC is making news at the show in a big way. Enterprises are waking up to the fact that perimeter security isn’t enough. Employees, partners, and customers enter the network from a variety of locations on any number of endpoints. To prevent intrusions and maintain network integrity, end points must be vetted as stringently as users. Well, more so, since user authentication is only now moving beyond single-factor.

Interop Preview: 10 Things To Do And See At The Conference
"Interop has grown to reflect the power of the network, as well as the breadth of it," said Interop General Manager Lenny Heymann, in an interview with InformationWeek. "It's about all the things needed to help companies communicate with each other and their customers. For the last few years, though, the enterprise has been heavily influenced by what's happening in the consumer market. People want information in anyplace, anytime, on any device."

Analyst News Flashes From the Show
Interop Las Vegas continues to be the premiere event where networking vendors, IT buyers, executives, press, and analysts come together to exchange knowledge and hawk solutions across the entire enterprise IT market. Interop Las Vegas 2007 will come alive with the highest levels of energy, showmanship, and marketeering seen since 2000. Vendors will be out in force, jockeying for eyeballs at the exhibition hall, but the real action at this year's Interop will happen off the show floor, in the individual tracks and break-out rooms.

Network access control truths a bit blurry at Interop
Network Access Control (NAC) remained a key discussion point at Interop Las Vegas, where it reigned last year and the previous winter at the show's New York venue. But this year, NAC talk has taken a different tack. Vendors now tout interoperability and the potential for standardization in response to users' feeling uneasy about NAC because of possible vendor lock-in.

Interop Preview: Microsoft Vs. Linux, Security To Share Vegas Spotlight
Though the show has branched off to cover a number of pressing IT topics, events related its eponymous theme -- system interoperability -- will be center stage at this year's show. And as dry as those words might sound on paper, there will be no shortage of controversy as vendors and users square off to define what interoperability means, who's responsible for it, and why it's still more theory than practice in today's IT world.

NAC, collaboration to be highlights at Interop Las Vegas
Interop general manager Lenny Heymann said this year's Interop, like those of previous years, will focus strongly on a breadth of topics that help leaders in IT put technologies together to drive business. Everything from security, collaboration, network management and wireless will be covered for all facets of IT, including large enterprises, SMBs, the channel, government and service providers. "Business solutions require interoperability," Heymann stressed, reiterating Interop's main focus.
EE Times
Interop's Renaissance
Interop was not just returning to life after years in the doldrums, it was loaded with demonstrations and testing linked to the InteropNet, ranging from data-center Ethernet implementations to secure-access systems and broadband wireless access tests. The show had not had such a hands-on feel since the days before its mid-1990s merger with NetWorld. And the Best of Interop winners included some long-time buddies of EE Times, including NetXen, Aruba, A10 Networks, and AirMagnet…One thing's for certain, NxtComm will be hard pressed to match Interop's aura of excitement.

Security to Headline Interop Las Vegas
Security will dominate Interop Las Vegas next week as event organizers say more than a quarter of the vendors in attendance will hawk security-related products, and the “security zone” on the show floor is filled to bursting….In addition, the event is launching CSO Bootcamp, a crash course in how to become a CSO that is modeled after the show’s existing and popular CIO Bootcamp that brings in CIOs to reveal the true nature of the job and the skills needed to be successful.

The Salesforce.com Effect Comes To Interop
In its 22-year history, the Interop trade show has been synonymous with networking, and this year's exhibitors are true to that heritage. But there's a recurring, software-oriented theme from many of the vendors I met with: the impact of Salesforce.com on the networking business.

Interop Sets A High Bar For Tech Vendors
Large industry shows like Interop Las Vegas are a great place for vendors to launch new products, for end users to find what they need to improve their business processes, and for us journalists to gather story ideas and to network. But what became obvious to me this time around is that vendors use these shows to test the limits of their technologies.

Adios, Interop
I heard that there were 21,000 people in town for the Interop conference. Judging by the hoard of people leaving the Mandalay Bay convention center yesterday, I believe it. My takeaways from the show are as follows…The buzzwords this year were network access control, wide-area network optimization and security. Security is a must-have. NAC is real and will go from concept to strategy in the next 12 months. WAN optimization is also a requirement. Why? Enterprises networks and applications have been designed in isolation and don't work very well together. WAN optimization adds intelligence to bridge this gap.

And it's not just a market for old standbys. The group includes startups, including Aerohive Networks and Ruckus Wireless, as well as new entrants to the space, such as Adtran."

Interop Interludes
"I heard that there were 21,000 people in town for the Interop conference. Judging by the hoard of people leaving the Mandalay Bay convention center yesterday, I believe it. My takeaways from the show are as follows:
- The buzzwords this year were network access control, wide-area network optimization and security. Security is a must-have. NAC is real and will go from concept to strategy in the next 12 months. WAN optimization is also a requirement. Why? Enterprises networks and applications have been designed in isolation and don't work very well together. - Networking folks are really smart technicians, but few can talk about business processes and solutions. Cisco Systems sure can, and until another vendor can match John Chambers and Co. on business chops, it will continue to dominate."
